Kell am See, Germany, July 5, 2011

We sleep until almost noon today after our big adventure down the Rhine yesterday. We have lunch at the resort on the deck, which is surprisingly good. The pizza here in Germany is amazing! The girls rationalize it by explaining to me that Germany is closer to Italy than the UnitedStates. :)

I guess it is because we are in small towns, but most local people do not speak English and there are no signs in English. I can manage to order food and ask where things are, but I am pretty lost otherwise. The girls laugh at me because Spanish keeps popping into my sentences as I try to improvise. Today at lunch I learn that the German word for tap water (which is very good in this mountain area) is "water by the hand."

Next we take advantage of the opportunity to do laundry at the resort.

The girls have yet to learn the enjoys of washing out your clothes in hotel sinks....they were learn this next week.....

As part of the resort activities, the girls have been keen to ride these little go carts you can rent. So I send them off and Mia has a big crash....going too fast on the curvy resort paths. One of the groundskeepers takes her back to our cabin. We are lucky she is not badly injured...like a head injury or something. Just badly bruised and shaken up, so there a no pictures of her riding.

Grace crashes too but her wounds aren't as debilitating ......

For dinner, Jerry makes us a nice stew with ingredients from the resort store. Turns out the meat we got was pork and not beef as we thought. If travel teaches you anything, it teaches you to be flexible. We settle in at our home/cabin and watch the Women's World Cup game of Germany versus France. A very exciting game. France plays well.. Almost better after their keeper is sent off with a red card and they play short. But Germany has more really good players. It ends 4-2 and Germany wins. The stadium is full with fans from both countries and we go to bed excited for our US v. Sweden game tomorrow.
