Back to Kell Am See, Germany

As in most European hotels, breakfast is included. The Swedish team has one of the restaurants to themselves for breakfast. The rest of the guests have a buffet set up in a smaller restaurant of the hotel. I smile at the Swedish team, I should probably have said congratulations as well.
Anyhow, the corollary of the included breakfast in Europe is that one should eat as much as you can so you can get by with a light snack for lunch. I encourage the girls to do so...and it is good to have some real food versus the brotes/bread and frankfurters/bratwurst we've been living on when we are on the road in Germany.

We decide to forego the Volkswagen Museum in town this morning because the girls are tired and it is supposedly not such a great thing anyhow. Here is Jerry in front of the Volkswagen Museum/Factory as we wait for our train back home.

So we start our 7hrs. plus ride back to Trier. Yesterday was more exciting because we are going to the game. Today is a lot less exciting. We have a nice meal in the dining car...a great way to travel and the food is fresh and good. Here are the girls enjoying kuchen/cake in the dining car....

Not much to report the rest of the trip, so I will reflect on traveling with the girls. They are at a good age for travel. They get themselves ready and packed on schedule. They have their own room. They can go by themselves (in pairs at least) to the bathroom, to buy things they want, and they can watch luggage. They are even helpful in deciphering German road signs and figuring out where to go, where to eat etc. Plus they are at a good age for starting to appreciate things they are seeing...they will tolerate museums (at least for a while),they know who Bach and Napoleon are and they are generally interested in other cultures without being afraid of new things. Because they are young, however, they have not yet learned to force themselves to be pleasant when they are tired and/or hungry. But for that matter, many adults lack the same important travel/life skill. Anyhow, what I have learned as the parent is that the grumpiness will pass as soon as they eat and rest and to not make a big deal out of it. I will admit, however, there has been a moment or two when I wanted to launch in to how ungrateful they were for this trip, the money, the effort and time etc. But I exert my own self-control and let it pass. I can say I am glad of their company and know their lives will be better because of the experience of this trip. That's a great thing and worth it all by itself.
